The Mcneil Instrument utilizes 317L grade austenitic stainless steel across a diverse array of applications, spanning power plants, paper and pulp processing facilities, textile equipment, petrochemical plants, food processing units, flue gas desulfurization scrubbers, and chemical processing installations. This grade of stainless steel is prized for its malleability and durability, making it a versatile choice. Comprising chromium, nickel, and molybdenum, this alloy offers excellent formability, weldability, and resistance to both localized and general corrosion. Its high chromium and nickel content render it particularly adept at withstanding high chloride ion concentrations, while the addition of molybdenum ensures resistance to mild sulfuric acids up to 5% concentration.

The 317L grade exhibits superior resistance to sulfur gas attacks during condensation. Its lower carbon content minimizes intergranular corrosion during welding, reducing material sensitization. Additionally, it enables high-temperature applications in conjunction with various mild chemicals. Notably, the material remains non-magnetic. The Mcneil Instrument confidently employs 317L stainless steel even in environments with elevated concentrations of hydrochloric, sulfuric, and other acids, provided temperatures remain below 38 degrees Celsius.
